You may love the bar / club scene and while it’s certainly not impossible to meet someone at a bar the alcohol and the pressure can certainly add up to a sticky situation. You may have your beer goggles on or you might feel like you “have” to meet someone just because you’re out. Women may feel like they need attention and guys may be fearful of the constant rejection. But potential dates are actually everywhere! Take a look around and you’ll see there are plenty of other opportunities to meet the opposite sex.
#1 Music Festival
At a music festival, you’re still in a social setting, albeit one that is a little less pressure to hookup. You already know the other person has excellent taste in music, otherwise they wouldn’t be there. Plus people are deeply fervent when it comes to music, making it the perfect conversation starter. Debating the different styles of music and bands is likely to get both of you hot and bothered, hopefully in a good way.
#2 Art museum parties
If you’re more interested in Keith Haring than Justin Timberlake than an art museum is the perfect place to pick up fellow artsy types. Not only is it safe to assume people at art museum parties are reasonably well-cultured, but they will also likely be well-traveled and smart. Many cities set aside a Thursday, Friday or Saturday, in which they host a free party at one of the local art museums. If you can’t make it to a museum, there are plenty of galleries that have open houses with free wine and/or beer as well.
#3 In Line, any line.
Even if you do decide to stick to the club scene, you don’t have to wait until you’re inside to make a move. Waiting in line can suck, (especially when it’s cold out), and misery loves company. When people are annoyed at the bouncer, they need a sympathetic ear to vent their frustration. That’s where you come in. They’ll likely enjoy griping with you and they’ve got nowhere to go except a few steps forward. When you finally get in, you can suggest getting a drink together, making for an easy transition. |
