Constantly having to meet for dinner or drinks can be time-consuming and expensive. Plus there’s always the anticipation of “the kiss”. Try slowing things down with a coffee date. They’re cheap, quick, and casual. It’s easy to get to know someone quickly before you dive in head first. Here are few things to keep in mind.
Keep it casual.
It is just coffee after all. Don’t come dressed up to the nines, when you’re just sipping java. If it’s an after work rendez-vous, loosen up the tie or take of your blazer. Look like you’re ready for date not a job interview.
Don’t be afraid to be yourself.
If you’re one of those people who orders a grande skim triple shot sugar-free vanilla latte, go ahead and do so in front of your date. After all, you want them to get to know you for who you are. It’s more important that you’re polite to the barista and that you can laugh at yourself. If you realize your drink order is a wee bit over the top it can break the ice, as opposed to getting indignant about it.
Don’t arrive starving.
It’s OK if you get a little snack like a muffin, but coffee may very well just be coffee. If the date is going well, you could suggest getting something to eat. But keep in mind that may not happen. And stomach rumblings are not exactly something you want your date to hear on the first date.
Do get there a little early.
Coffeehouses can get notoriously crowded. If you can, arrive 10-15 minutes early to stake out a good spot. This way you’ll be able to hear your date over the whirr of coffee grinders. Many coffee shops also have comfy sofas and chairs, so if you can get there a wee bit early you may be able to snag the perfect spot. |
